Welcome NOTE from Happy Leman

Current President of the Devonshire Homeowners Association

On behalf of the Devonshire Homeowners Association (DHA), I would like to welcome you to our neighborhood. For almost 50 years, we have been one of Champaign’s special neighborhoods. It is our hope that with the involvement of you and your family, we will become an even better place to live.

Devonshire has many advantages: the close proximity to downtown Champaign and Urbana, with an easy drive to the University; adjacent Savoy which includes Willard airport; many restaurants, grocery stores and a wide range of shopping within minutes; beautiful well-cared for homes; and mature trees and landscaping. Best of all, we have great people from all walks of life. Our residents are friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help one another. Many lifelong friendships have been developed among our residents.

Our ultimate goal is that each family living in Devonshire will have a wonderful experience. We want people to make friends, have close relationships and enjoy a community feel. Such a sense of community is not easy to achieve, but can be done by putting our hearts into reaching out and helping one another.

As president of the Devonshire Homeowner’s Association, I hope you will join me in becoming an active participant in making Devonshire an even better place to live. We have meetings 1-2 times a year, standing committees for continuous improvement, and the hope that we can make this a very special community. We try to live by the Golden Rule: treat others as we would want to be treated. We find that this works much better than having many rules and regulations.

When our neighborhood was created in the early 1970s, a covenant was established. Please see it in the Documents page. We believe that following the spirit of the document is more important than the actual specifics.

We will begin sending you regular communication so that you can keep up with the life and activities of Devonshire, and we encourage you to submit story ideas to include on the website. If there is anything that we can do to make this a better place to live, we would love to hear from you. We encourage and invite you to be an enthusiastic participant at all levels.
